Additional Screen Options
If you have a strong family history or genetic risk of cancer, but would prefer to not have prophylactic surgery, increased cancer screening might be right for you. This method will not prevent cancer, but it can help detect it at an earlier stage when it is easier to treat.
Mammography
A mammogram is an x-ray of the breast that helps doctors detect cancer. There are three different types of mammograms: standard, digital and three dimensional. As a high risk patient you may require contrast enhanced mammography, diagnostic mammography or more frequent mammography.
Breast MRI
MRI imaging uses a magnetic field and pulses of radio waves to capture images of breast tissue. For most MRIs, a dye is used to help doctors detect changes in blood flow, inflammation or some types of cancer. MRI can be used with or without contrast.
Breast CT
Breast CT a 3D imaging technique that uses X-rays to create a high-resolution image of the breast. Breast CT scans can be used to detect breast cancer in its early stages and may improve upon the current standard of breast cancer screening. It does not require compression, can be better for dense breast imaging and can detect breast cancer in very early stages. Learn more about Koning Vera Breast CT.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound is an minimally invasive imaging procedure that uses sound waves to gather images of breast tissue. This procedure is useful, in addition to other imaging procedures, because it can capture images of all areas of the breast, including the area closest to the chest wall.
